Talk To Us

We answer the phone during business hours and return messages the same day. Usually.

Or just call (213) 845-6500. Efrain or Marcus usually picks up.

A Contractor That Only Does Soil Gas

We are a Los Angeles commercial radon and soil gas contractor, locally owned, working out of a shop off Slauson Avenue in Vernon since 2011. Radon, vapor intrusion, and methane systems are the whole business. No duct cleaning, no mold division, no general contracting arm looking for change orders.

Marcus spent nine years as a field lead for an environmental consulting firm doing vapor intrusion work on brownfield redevelopments before starting this company, which is where the habit of designing systems for more than one contaminant came from. Dee came over from commercial HVAC and handles anything involving an air handler, which in this business is more than people expect. Efrain has been doing membrane and crawl space work for eleven years and is faster on his back with a roll of tape than anyone we have hired since.

What We Are Up Against, and Why We Say So

There are two kinds of radon companies in a low-radon market. One tells every building owner they have a problem. The other tells the truth, which is that Los Angeles County runs around 1% of buildings above the action level and most of the calls we get end with a clean test and an invoice for a few hundred dollars.

We are the second kind, and we are aware that it is a strange business model. It works because commercial work is repeat work. An asset manager who gets an honest answer on one property calls us for the next eleven.

The Big Names, and Where We Fit

National firms like Protect Environmental and SWAT Environmental do good work and handle enormous multi-state portfolios. If you have 200 properties across eleven states and need one contract, call them; that is genuinely what they are built for.

What we offer instead is that the person who scopes your job is the person who installs it, that we know which LADBS plan checkers want what, and that when your fan fails on a Thursday we have the replacement on a shelf in Vernon rather than in a national distribution queue. Local is not a marketing word in this trade. It is response time.

Services We Offer

We work throughout Los Angeles County and the surrounding basin, from the harbor up through the valleys and out to Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley, and many more cities.

Credentials

In California, anyone providing professional radon measurement or mitigation services must appear on the California Department of Public Health certified list, which requires NRPP or NRSB certification and recertification every two years. Mitigators must additionally hold a California contractor's license in classification B, C-20, C-36, or D-64.

We hold both, and we are licensed and insured. Ask for the documentation on your first call. Any contractor who gets cagey about it is telling you something.

A note from Marcus

I got into this sideways. I was doing vapor intrusion work for a consulting firm, mostly on old industrial parcels getting redeveloped, and I kept watching owners get handed a mitigation bid from some outfit that had clearly never read a soil gas report, and then watching those systems fail their verification. In 2011 I finally figured I could do it better and started out of a rented bay in Vernon with a core rig I bought used and my brother-in-law Tony, who is still here and still complains about the crawl spaces.

The thing I did not expect was how much of this job is telling people they are fine. In LA that is most of the calls. It felt like bad business for about two years and then the same property managers started calling with everything they owned, and it has been that way since.

Our Mission

Measure honestly, build systems that pass, and stay reachable after the invoice clears.

“Straight answers, no upsell. They told us two of our six buildings did not need anything.”

Portfolio manager, Mid-City

“Used them on a methane project in the Fairfax area where our previous consultant had already burned two plan check cycles. Basin redid the design, it cleared on the next submittal, and the deputy inspection went without a single failed coupon. Cost us more than the first guy quoted and saved about six weeks.”
